Learn Quickly With a Violin Tuner

  • Nov 26, 2010 from promoters(Idea Man) in Lifestyle
promoters There is only way to get the best sound from a violin. Tuner methods are very important in getting each string to provide perfect sounding notes. If you dont know how to tune your violin there is a risk that you may be responsible for breaking a string. When you tune your violin you must take care to use the pegs to adjust each string very carefully. You use the pegs by either tightening or loosening to get the pitch of a note. It is advisable to tune your violin when you have time. It is not a good idea to tune your instrument when you are in a hurry because it is likely you may break

Review by an owner of two Snark clip-on tuners

"Tunes Tighter So You Sound Better."I'm impressed with the Snark tuners. I own the Blue SN-1 for guitars and the Red SN-2 with extended range and a built in mic for all instruments. Better than I thought they'd be. Least important is the finish, but the finish is beautiful. Much better than any of the company pictures I've seen on websites. The blue and red colors are an intense rare metallic color. The Snark only weighs about 1.5 ounces with a very expertly made clamp with rubber gripping jaws. The lower jaw hinges allowing it to fit any contour. I have an Ovation with the angled head stock. The Snark clips right on and stays there. And with a ball socket on each end of the curved mounting post that connects the clamp to the face we're talking 360 degress maneuvering making the Snark perfectly adjustable for most any situation.Comes complete with a CR2032 Lithium 3 volt battery. This is the same kind that many computers use for the clock battery. They never seem to wear... 5/5 Stanley B. Huggard - See all my reviews, February 11, 2011

Best clip-on tuner I've ever used!

After trying several clip-on tuners for my guitars, banjos, and mandolins, this is definitely the best I've ever used. It works very well on all three instruments. It's accurate, the lighted display is very visible with bright colors for flat, sharp, and right-on. The head of the display swivels easily in any direction for easy viewing. It also allows tuning by both vibration or sound. The red color of the tuner's exterior makes it easy to find in my gig bag but is not obnoxiously bright when placed on the headstock. It's so good I bought two. Delivery came in about two or three days by standard shipping. 5/5 Patrick Murphree (Los Altos, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) My Review

I bought this just to see if it would work as the reviews say. I was surprised that it really does work. I even ordered another one. Just clamp it and forget it. I use it on my ukuleles, from the soprano, concert, tenor to the baritone it works on all of them. I also like the fact that it has a metronome, no sound but just a little heart that flashes, which you can set the tempo also. I like it better that the Lanikai Chromatic & Ukulele LUT-1 Tuner. I like the fact that it is lighted so you can see the screen in low light settings. Try it you will like it.I also wanted to add that by using this you can also learn the fret board. Just choose a fret and strum or pick the string and it will show you what the note is.I will post more later on after I have used it some more and after I see how long it holds up to everyday use.. 5/5 Keithmj "Noodj" (Saint Petersburg, Fl) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Help for aTin Ear

I am not a musician, but I love "playing" the ukulele as a way to amuse myself and relax at the end of a long day. Unfortunately I have trouble tuning my instrument because I am not so blessed with a tin ear. I have trouble determining when I have my uke strings in tune. I can get close, but often an off pitch string sounds OK to me.I really never heard of an electronic tuner before I discovered the Korg CA-40 as a recommended product based on my purchasing history on the [...]. The price tag on the thing was so cheap I thought I could buy one and gamble that it was a remedy for my problem tuning the ukulele. The tuner arrived and I was amazed at how easy it was to use and how nice my ukulele sounded once it was tuned properly. The Korg CA-40 "listens" to a string and an easily read screen along with a series of lights tell me what note a given string is sounding. The device automatically shows if a string is sharp or flat so I know to tighten or loosen it... 5/5 Richard L. Steiner (OREGON United States) - See all my reviews, May 27, 2007

    really fine tuner

I'm a professional classical musician, play viola, and use this every day. I usually use it with the Korg CM-100 tuner clip, which makes it even faster and more accurate, faster and more accurate IMO than the KORG OT-12 which costs much more. I also find it more accurate than the CA-30. It can easily track one note per second, and if my pitch is very accurate so it doesn't have to hunt much, it can even zero in in half a second, so I can actually practice passages with it. Batteries last a LONG time. A truly excellent tuner. 5/5 ResearchingMom (Hopewell Junction, NY United States) - See all my reviews, April 5, 2008

    Very pleased with this tuner!

I just purchased one of these little tuners from Amazon last week. Though my guitar is low quality, (that's the next thing I'm going to buy) tuning it using only the meter mode of the tuner made it sound quite good, much better than my ear tuning. This thing is sensitive, accurate, and incredibly easy to use. What else do you want? 5/5 Chino (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Tuner.

The Korg CA-1 is a chromatic tuner which allows you to tune in any key. It features a quarter-inch jack for input and a "+" and "-" key for tuning in another pitch close to what you're in. Say I was in G and wanted to go to G1. Hit the "+" button a couple times, and bam it's now calibrated for that pitch. It comes standard with a small condenser mic built in so you can tune a woodwind instrument, trumpet, acoustic guitar or small squirrel. Whatever you need to tune. Super simple and easy to use, Korg has a reputation for producing the best tuners on the market. Weather it's rackmount tuning you need or the cheap-o $20 CA-1 Korg has you covered. My first one worked until it was lost during a show. I am willing to put money down that it would have worked up until now when I needed to buy another. To the review that says it's "Tinny" sounding...Dude, that's stupid. It's a tuner. It doesn't have an OUTPUT! You plug in your guitar or bass and tune. You can't say that a tuner has... 5/5 A. Politano (Springfield, VA) - See all my reviews, January 14, 2010

    Did a Good Job

I had ordered the CA1 and CA-40 at the same time, but received the CA1 first, so I used it to tune our baby grand Wurlitzer (first time ever for me to tune a piano). The CA1 worked well indicating whether a string was solid on the note (green only LED) indicated on the display, or off the note (green and red LEDs). The great thing about the red LEDs on either side of the green is they tell you whether to tighten the pin more (when red LED to left of green is lit, i.e., string too loose) or loosen the pin some (when red LED to right of green is lit, i.e., string too tight). The first pass of tuning the piano took five and half hours, but to be fair, the piano was grossly in need of a tune. The CA1 did not pick up the higher octaves or the lower octaves but if you are patient and have "a good ear," you can tune, by ear, the octaves outside of the CA1's range. The CA-40 picks up more octaves than the CA1 (see my review) which speeds up the tuning process, but the octaves outside of... 3/5 F. Excellent Tuner Even Works on Bass Low E

This is a great little tuner. It is just as accurate as my Boss TU-12 and it works much better than my Inteli IMT500. It works great on my uke, mandolin, guitar and bass - yes even the low E string. The colored display is very nice and seems to make tuning easier than the LCD display on the IMT500.I don't think I will use the IMT500 again unless the Snark SN5 gets broken. 5/5 Mark Druziak (western ny) - See all my reviews, June 27, 2011

Love the red color and ease of use

I have used a variety of violin tuners over the years. This clip-on tuner is great for tuning in a noisy area. It will read your string's note either by sound or by vibration. I thought at first that the red color would be a bit too wild. However, it is a lovely tone that blends in well with the brown color of my violin's scroll where I have it clipped. I do not even notice it's presence (by sight or by getting in my way) when I am playing the violin. Very cool tool! The price was very moderate for the technology this provides. 5/5 Sandra E. Nicer than the Intelli tuner

This is my favorite clip on tuner. It's colorful display is easy to read even without my reading glasses. It's note tracking is stable and faster than on the Intelli. Nothing rattles when you play so you can leave it on your guitar. works great on upright bass

I was given one of these to try with my upright bass and immediately loved it. It's the first clip on tuner I've used that actually works with an upright bass. I've got it with me out here on the road and it has worked perfectly every night. I love everything about it. The display is easy to read with the tuner clipped on the bridge. It makes tuning my bass way quicker than my previous tuner, the Boss TU-2. 5/5 Jeff Eyrich (Tuckahoe, NY) - See all my reviews, August 25, 2010

    Compact and well built tuner-metronome.

This tuner/metronome is very well built and has a 12 note refrence. It works very well with my violin and I carry it with me to class and when I practice. The metronome has a loud beat. The tuner is loud so you can hear it over what you are playing. It has a large screen and is very easy to use. I recommend this to anyone that plays a string instrument. 5/5 A. maxon (eastern tn) - See all my reviews, September 1, 2005

Not the best tuner or metronome, but perhaps the best for the price.

I've always had difficulty finding tuners with adequate response, and this one was actually a downgrade from the OT-12 (my favourite pocket-sized tuner), but it surprised me by working better than any previous combined metronome-tuner while not costing much more. The response rate is not adjustable, but sits at about a medium (there has to be at least a second of sustenance, but not more than two if you're steady). The precision is about as good as most will ever need, although it's dubiously delineated between -3 and +3 cents. The rest of the spectrum to fifty is clear-cut (it is fully digital, for better or for worse). The accuracy is also as good as could be asked for at its price-range, but not great - you may want to let it cycle a couple times for the more troublesome notes or if you're of the end-inward school of tuning. There are no temperament settings, but very few musicians will miss that option. There is an input for contact mics, though the impedance choice is... 5/5 Mark Gilbert (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews, November 11, 2006

    Sensitive mic

This tuner has been a wonderful aid in tuning our violins and cellos. I've found the mic to be too sensitive in our setting as it picks up my young children's voices while I'm trying to tune an instrument. I will be purchasing the pick-up mic accessory in hopes that it will insulate against the background noise. If you are able to tune your instrument in private, then this should not be a problem for you. Also, the tiny flip-out stand doesn't seem to provide adequate support when placed vertically on uneven surfaces like, say various surfaces of a cluttered piano. However, the pick-up mic should eliminate the need to position the tuner optimally in front of the instrument. This is less likely to be a legitimate drawback of the tuner design itself, and more likely to be one of my way of using it. In any event, I cannot imagine not using an electronic tuner for these or any other reason. It is truly a gift for those who play strings. 4/5 Ich liebe cello (Seattle area) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great product

I was invited to participate in a jam session at a friend's large family get-together. When it came time to tune up one of the other players handed me an Intelli IMT-600 clip-on tuner. I had never used this type of tuner before and had never seen one before. Having an older type of tuner which required me to find a spot in front of the guitar (and music played by others would interfere in the tuning) I was amazed by how well the IMT-600 worked, especially when all the other musicians were playing their instruments at the same time. Immediately upon returning home that evening I found the product at Amazon and ordered one. When it arrived I was very impressed with its accuracy not only in tuning my Martin HD-28, and my Ibanez classical guitar, but how well and easy it was to use for my mandolin, and even my Les Paul electric. The price is phenomenal for what you get and the convenience of having a tuner which clips to the headstock is fabulous. Exactly the Way It Should Be for 6- & 12-String Guitars - Worked for Acoustic Bass, Too

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:29 MinsMany reviews on this tuner and its brothers have mentioned slowness on acquiring the guitar low E. This video shows how minor (or even non-existent) the issue is if you put the tuner on the side of the headstock closest to the low E.If you VIEW the video in FULL SCREEN, you can see the digital pointer, and how it moves as the two low E's on a 12-string guitar are tuned up to correct pitch.Sorry about video quality (Amazon reduces their quality) and the cars in the background (I needed lots of light in the background, and I did not want to bring my guitar out into the snow). The tuner also worked for a friend's acoustic/electric bass guitar. It took about a second to get the low E (on the bass guitar, remember), but it got it. He was able to tune his bass, and I my 12-string while a piano was playing (we were about 10 feet behind the soundboard of an upright acoustic piano that was also being amplified). Works great, but tricky to place on violin.

This tuner does what it's suppose to, and does it well! My biggest problem is finding a spot on the violin that wont make it overly cumbersome to tune with this thing in the way. I like putting it on the top of the scroll, it's still a bit of a pain in the butt to tune the pegs with this thing on, but it's definitely manageable.Warning! Don't attach this to the back of the violin neck, I managed to scratch a music store's really expensive violin as a result. I had to sneak outta there!! 4/5 C. Great little clip-on Tuner

I ordered this clip-on violin/mandolin tuner as an add-on to my order for a new case for my mandolin. The tuner proved to be a handy little gadget, easy to use and fairly intuitive. It seems to be quite sensitive to the string's pitch, as it is easy to tune it right thru the green sweet spot" with minor tweeking of the tuning knob. However, it didn't take me long to get the hang of it. I would recommend this item to my friends. 4/5 GoldSubCommander - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Don't waste your money

Purchased this because I liked the compactness and the cheap price. Wasn't worth it. Battery would not make connection. If I took the battery out and put back in, it might work but more than often not. Tried couple batteries, same problem. Battery worked in different electronic device so battery was not the problem. 1/5 MK - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) miracle worker!

I used to use a large digital quartz tuner to tune my banjo and guitar. I tuned my violin and banjo ukelele, less accurately, with the piano. When my ukulele-playing friend told me about clip on tuners for the ukulele, I was interested, thinking I could now have a device for tuning just my ukulele. Hmmm, all I would then need to buy would be an oboe to tune my violin. In researching various clip-on tuners online, I came upon the Tiny Tuner CT-10. WOW! It would tune all four of my instruments! To make a long story short, I now own two Tiny Tuners CT-10 and have just ordered a third for a friend. These tuners are fantastic, accurate, tiny, and user-friendly. I've compared the readings of the Tiny Tuner with my big digital Quartz Tuner when tuning my guitar and they are the same! My favorite rave is that Tiny Tuner is easy for 70-yr-old + eyes to see and read, since blue means "not in tune" and green means "great". I don't have to be able to see... 5/5 Mary E. Stellar Product -- a must have for all serious musicians!

I'll keep this simple and to the point. I've been playing guitar for 10+ years now, and this is the first time in a LOOOONG time that I'm excited about and willing to review a product. To put it bluntly, the Tiny Tuner is SUPER easy to use. One thing I love is how the device turns green when I'm perfectly tune. My old tuner looks ANCIENT compared to this one. This is a must have device for any serious guitarist, and I will be recommending all of my musician friends to also purchase the Tiny Tuner! 4/5 Moozic Junkee - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
