The Suzuki violin method has been around for quite a long time now, but it remains to be a popular choice in teaching young children how to play the violin. The method was first developed by violinist Shin'ichi Suzuki who aimed to teach young students various musical instruments by repeatedly listening to them.He modeled this method after the mother tongue philosophy after he noticed that young children have eas

    great repertoire!

If your child is beginning violin these books and cds may well be part of the curicculum. I'm a bit older and decided to teach myself violin after dabbling a little with fiddle music. The first 3 books of this series really give you a great foundation and contain some great pieces to play. They are challanging enough but it's at book 4 that things start to get more intermediate with the Bach double concerto for instance. Don't get me wrong though because in the first 3 books there is really a wealth of great materialincluding several Bach pieces, Dvorak's Humoresque and many more familiar works. Of course you will definetly want and need to get the cds that accompany each book and as well as each piece with the piano accompanyment they also contain the accompanyment alone so you can practice the violin along with just that. I see amazon is charging list price as does almost everyone else, music stores etc. Shar Music, which deals only in violins, violas, cellos and related... 5/5 jed clampett "michael mclaughlin" (Novato Ca. The one, the only and still the greatest

To the parents of children undertaking the violin, be advised. The detractors that have reservations about the Suzuki method/book are missing two basic facts a) your child will learn how to play the violin (beautifully with some effort), and b) that this is really the only method that directly addresses the daunting task of teaching a string instrument to a child with pre-reading or early reading skills. Like it or not, agree with it or not, this is the method that your teacher will more probably than not adopt. It really does work; I have seen a string orchestra, taught by Suzuki, performing the Bach Concerto for 2 Violins in which none of the performers was over 12. Lest you read other reviews and be tempted to pass on Suzuki for some more "conventional" method, give this book and a good teacher a try, and be amazed at the skills that your child displays. 5/5 John Tilelli MD "Bookaholic" (Apopka, FL USA) - See all my reviews, May 12, 2003

    very good

I like this new version of Suzuki violin book 1. It's more cluttered looking with the extra text which makes it a little harder to read the notes than the old version, but it does give the new student useful info. Of course, there is nothing like having a teacher help you refine the skills explained in the book.I also like the ABCs of Violin books and DVDs. Many of my Suzuki colleagues and I think the ABCs of Violin and Viola books are excellent as reading supplements, but we begin adult students in the ABCs of Violin and Viola books which are more appropriate for that age group than the suzuki books. 5/5 violinmike (Maine) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suzuki Violin School Volume 1 - Revised Edition (Book & CD) (Suzuki Violin School, Violin Part) (Sheet music) I like this new version of Suzuki violin book 1. Book is as Presented

I don't doubt that the other reviewer may have received the "older" version of this music book. I just received it and it is the revised edition with the "colorful" cover. My experience with Amazon since its inception has been mostly good - if what I had received was not what was presented on the site, I'm sure Amazon would correct the problem. 5/5 J. Kindle not good!!

The music is so small on the Kindle display it is virtually useless. I admit, I bought it as an experiment as we already have the book. Of course, no CD either, though the Kindle plays audio and it could easily be achieved, yet overlooked - no music. This is so poorly executed the person responsible should be ashamed.Oh, and I did try the "Sample" however you only get to read the introduction - no sheet music sample - and the introduction text is easily read. Once you get into the body of the book, which you don't see in the sample, you need a microscope to read the sheet music.Utterly worthless effort, and total waste of money. 1/5 J Mhr (NJ) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice addition to your Suzuki method collection

I bought this book to help me learn more the Suzuki method and how to teach/encourage me and my 6 yr old son with our home violin practice. While our violin teacher does a few things a little different from the recommendations in this book, I still found this book helpful. It gave me ideas to make our home practices more Dr. Starr also includes some cute stories to help encourage children to practice and my son liked hearing these from the book. 4/5 J. Great for Teachers

As a violin teacher that teaches a lot of young children, I found this book to be very helpful. At first I thought it might just be stories about Mr Suzuki himself, but that is actually just a minor part of the book. I am not necessarily a Suzuki teacher, I like to use different approaches for each student - so therefore I found this book even more helpful in providing tips and tricks as for how to make teaching violin more enjoyable for students, how to speak to their imagination more and get them excited about something that can sometimes seem boring. Also, there's a lot of exercises and explanations about those exercises in the book that are very helpful.A very easy read as well! 5/5 Rachel Grace - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Far better than the Suzuki CD but a bit too fast

Far, far better than the CD that comes with some of the Suzuki books (which sounds like they played it on a synthesizer), this David Cerone CD is good for listening. It is a bit too fast in tempo for most students of that level to be able to play along. My son's violin teacher has assigned him a certain amount of listening time as he progresses to each new song, and this CD is perfect for that (I just put it in the van's CD player and set the song to loop until we're all humming it). I wish they would release a second CD at half this tempo- several of the songs feel rushed, even just as listening music. 4/5 Janet L. Good cd

I agree 100% with the last reviewer on both a student level AND as a violin teacher. It bugged me as a student that these recordings were played so fast, and now as a teacher I thinks it's even more ridiculous! Excellent cd, it's just too bad it's illogical speed-wise. This is why I often record myself playing these songs slower for my students to listen to instead. 3/5 Alissa K. Kindle version poorly done

The print version of the book is fine. However, the Kindle version is poorly done. The Kindle version consists of scanned pages from the paper book. Many titles don't render on the same page as the music score at some zoom view settings. Zoom changes result in inconsistent scaling and positioning of various scanned objects, e.g. song titles, composer names, and the music scores themselves. Some of the musical notations have been cropped and therefore lost. The Kindle conversion just seemed too amateurish, especially with the Japanese characters of the composer names being shown at the bottom of the music score instead of below the English name. Some of the composer names are shown on the left side instead of the right side of the page. The only noteworthy features in the Kindle version are the hyperlinked Table of Contents and the search feature. I may have been better off buying the book, and scanning it into a PDF document to load onto my Kindle. 2/5 W. Chin "DIYer" (NH United States) - See all my reviews, January 4, 2012

    Susulo duets

This book adds a very lovely touch to students studying violin. The harmony parts are not difficult but true to the original sound of the music. The music goes with some of the songs in Book 1 and 2 violin solos. While the parts are not difficult, it probably would be better for a little more advanced student who actually reads music to play. I would think it would be more difficult for a student to learn it from memory as most students do in book 1 and 2. It was played by children in book 3 and 4 to accompany children in book 1 and 2 as they played for the teacher's recital and was a beautiful touch. 5/5 P Jones (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suzuki: Duets for Violins (Paperback) This book adds a very lovely touch to students studying violin. Was sold with CD, but no CD was included

We always order the Suzuki violin books with the CD, and this one was advertised as coming with the CD, so I ordered it. However, the CD was missing. I am not sure what to do about that, since I don't want to return the book; I just want the CD to be sent, and I feel it should have been included in the price since that is how it was advertised. It's irritating to have to take the time to try to figure out how to solve this, short of just ordering the CD separately and forgetting about the fact that it was advertised differently than it really was. 2/5 hatlove - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Revised Edition much better than previous edition

I had earlier bought the 'Suzuki Violin School Violin Part, Volume 4' from Amazon, only to realise there was a revised version that the teacher wanted. So I had to buy this second book for Volume 4. This book has better print, more information re: shifting positions & exercises to practise these, in addition to the songs with better explanations.Highly recommend this book- do not make the mistake of buying the earlier version. 5/5 Subha Srinivasan "Budget shopper" (Princeton, NJ) - See all my reviews, February 10, 2011

    Good

Delivered to my door, can't beat that.Suzuki violin is a great program that is well arranged. Students play great music from multiple composers, allows students (and parents) to learn about different composers and musical styles.Songs sound pleasant to the ear, a bonus for parents, and many of the songs are catchy. I find myself humming the current song throughout the day.A challenging book that will enhance any repertoire. Much better than the essential elements style of book for the private violin student who has been playing for a few years. 5/5 KD - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Suzuki CD a must for students

The Suzuki philosophy is based upon the idea that children can learn music in the same manner they do their native language, through repetitive listening. This listening is then followed up with 1) Individual Instruction with a trained Suzuki teacher 2) Group lessons on a bi-weekly / weekly basis 3) Parent Involvement 4) Encouragement. Students begin lessons as early as two years old and through repetition of small and enjoyable steps begin building a music vocabulary. This high quality CD gives a foundation for pitch memory and a framework of music language from which a well trained teacher can build upon. There is also a version of this CD which is performed by David Nadien; the benefit is there are also recordings of the piano accompaniments without the violin so that students can practice with the piano. Both the Suzuki and Nadien versions of the Suzuki Violin School recordings are fabulous. My only wish is that the final two volumes, 9 and 10, were also on recordings. 5/5 Lisa Miles (Juneau, AK) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suzuki Violin School (Suzuki Violin School Cd): Vol. 1 (Audio CD) The Suzuki philosophy is based upon the idea that children can learn music in the same manner they do their native language, through repetitive listening. The first step

I am a "Suzuki kid" myself, now a Suzuki Violin teacher. This is Volume I of 10 in the Suzuki Method Violin repertoire. It is vital that you read Dr. Suzuki's book, "Nurtured By Love" before beginning any Suzuki program. Technique is nothing without a full understanding of the underlying philosophy here, so make sure you agree with Dr. Suzuki's ideas, then find a teacher who feels the same way. You and your child are in for the time of your lives! 5/5 "oliviasaru" - See all my reviews This review is from: Suzuki Violin School: Violin Part, Volume 6 (Sheet music) I am a "Suzuki kid" myself, now a Suzuki Violin teacher. Suzuki Violin School, Vol. 1 - performed by Shinichi Suzuki

As a violin teacher, I bought this CD for one of my students. However, I am NOW ordering the Cd of the same volume performed by a different violinist. The performances on this CD are, unfortunately, all very sharp, in other words, not in tune. I do not recommend any student listening to them, as their use as a reference for intonation will be incorrect. 1/5 snazzy (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suzuki Violin School (Suzuki Violin School Cd): Vol. 1 (Audio CD) As a violin teacher, I bought this CD for one of my students. Suzuki Violin School: Volume 3

This is the third book of the Suzuki Violin School books. It is OK. I have the previous two ( Vol. 1 and Vol.2) They are both a better value. They are both longer with more songs and excerscises ( This one features only 7 songs) . However, this volume is the first to implicate vibrato excersises and the "Second position" in the songs. I have noticed that this volume also repeats previous songs from the first two books. Recommended for student violinsts wanting to advance mostly in the second position and vibrato.*Correction* The book features excercises in the *Third Position* which is one stup up from the normal playing position. Sorry for the error. Still Highly Recommended! 4/5 Dan the Review Guy (Tulsa, Oklahoma USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Wonderful booklet for violin lessons--

I ordered this booklet to add variety in my son's violin lessons and I was very pleased that it arrived the day before his lessons. My son also said that the book is easy to read and fun to practice with. 5/5 M. Almeida (Downey, CA) - See all my reviews, April 19, 2010

I found this book to be very helpful when I bought a violin and needed to learn how to read music. 5/5 Lisa K. F - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
