  Poor quality & return process

  We purchased this violin thinking it would be a good "starter" to see if my son enjoyed playing the violin enough to buy or rent a good one. It looked good, but unfortunately his teacher said it wouldn't hold a tune even through one lesson.So I contently decided to return it October 1st after 2 weeks assuming I would have a hassle-free return. What I was really unsatisfied with was Austin Bazaar's return process, which took over 7 weeks, during which time they only contacted me once to request that I "remove my comments from Amazon" (all I had done was click "Leave Seller Feedback"), and to say the delay was probably due to something I had done wrong or that it had only been a couple days since they received it. I followed strictly all their return requirements and shipped it back with Delivery Confirmation and insurance (USPS). Austin Bazaar received and signed for the violin at 9:47am on OCTOBER 5th.   Just fine for a student

  We bought this for our 11 year old niece to use for her music class. It works just fine and she's quite happy with it, no complaints from her teacher either. Fresh out of the box you'll have to give the tuners and strings some time to break in, but that's life with stringed instruments. The bow on ours had some loose strands, so you may have to do some trimming. The finish isn't particularly outstanding but totally acceptable at this price point. Tone and playability are just fine. No one will confuse this with a Sradivarius, but it will allow a beginning student to learn how to play. That's the point of an instrument at this price point, and so within that context this is a five star purchase. Does exactly what it needs to, and if the whole thing doesn't work out you haven't blown a huge chunk of money.For the price I was also impressed with the case; its fairly sturdy, holds two bows and has extra storage.   Own A Great Student Violin At A "Rental Price"

  Before going any further...this is a student violin. It is not made for professional use, just school classes, practice and school concerts. Some people review these comparing them to higher end products.Here is what I look for in a student violin:* The ability to tune the instrument and have it hold its tune.* Basic quality: it need not be a one piece back or have flaming on the finish. Just the appropriate woods and materials used to make the violin.* Price: I prefer to own my instruments as opposed to rent them, provided I can find something in the price range of a rental or not too much more, figuring I can probably resell the instrument when it is no longer needed.* Proper shop adjustment (Note: you will need to seat the bridge!   Good Shoulder Rest

  I bought this for my 10yr old daughter just getting into violin lessons.I initially bought the Resonans shoulder rest which was just terrible. I bought that one because it was cheap and it was the one that was at our local music store.The Kun one was the one our violin instructor uses so I bought it from Amazon. My daughter finds this one very comfortable. The grips that hold to the violin have a nice rubber to prevent scratches. The curved design and the foam add to the comfort. The best part is that its height adjustable by "unscrewing" the grips some.I would highly recommend this one vs. the Resonans branded one. 5/5 Pitter S. After 9 months of light use, and occasionally losing hairs, it lost all the hairs completely, pulled out of the tip.   A Serviceable Bow

  I bought this violin bow trying to save a little money.Well, you get what you pay for. While it does the job, it is not a quality product. No matter how much rosin you apply, it will invariably slide on the strings at times producing and unpleasant screech. The first time it was tightened, several of the hair broke or dislodged from either side.
