A violin bow for 1/3 the cost of a rehair job

I teach in a program that uses donated instruments for students who have not yet purchased a violin and was in need of bows for a couple fiddles. I looked at these somewhat skeptically because of the price but then went ahead and got a couple. These are amazing for the purchase price. They don't have a cheap feel to them and they work well. Probably you would need a better bow to perfect your flying spicatto, but for getting kids started and interested before parents have to shell out $$ they work great. The five stars are based on reasonable expectations for a very inexpensive bow. 5/5 Carolyn Osborne "co" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews, December 20, 2010

    A good starting bow

I got this bow about a month ago, and its a decent bow. It seemed to take me 10 times as much rosin as should have for it to play for some reason, could have been something with the hair... but other than that, it's been working good. The sound quality definitely depends on the quality of your instruments, so if your looking for high quality, buy a high quality bow. If you just want music of good enough quality for everything else, this pr\well for me. In conclusion, Beginners only. 4/5 KDG (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I would not recommend buying this bow. When it came in the mail the wood was warped so much that it wasn't even close to being straight. On top of that it was cracked right in the middle. You're better off buying something else. 1/5 wensledale - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) good rosin (from beg intm adult student) BUT priced high

My suggestions to parents who have kids who play violin:1. as they get older, get them a good quality instrument. Rent one, don't buy one - the rentals are so much better quality than what you'd probably budget for. I am currently renting a better-quality instrument than I played as a teen - as a child I guess it doesn't matter, but as I got older, a better instrument would have been nice.2. get them a good quality rosin. As an adult I have come to appreciate spending alittle more money for things that are worth it - and this rosin is one of them...to a certain point. I got tis exact rosin for $10.86 and although that is about 10x more than I'd have ever expected to pay for rosin, I think the results are well-worth it. (although after I posted my raving review the price hovered at $16-$17 for it, which i think is HORRIBLE. I'm morally opposed to buying more of this rosin until the prices goes back down!!!!3. get them a couple private lessons from a teacher who... 5/5 Lexie Lo. If this is rosin, what the heck have I been using??

After reading the reviews on here I decided to upgrade my rosin since I had been using the good ole' amber brick since childhood. OMG, what have I been using? The bow just glides on the strings now! You can definitely tell the difference right away and I will never go back to the amber brick again. For me personally, I don't think it gives off as much dust as the amber rosin. At about 11 dollars, I'd say it is worth every penny. Show your violin you care! <3<3<3 5/5 E. Worth the price

As an amateur player, I figured expensive rosin was only for the pros, and I could get by with the cheap stuff. Then I thought to myself, a cake of rosin lasts me YEARS, so why not try the expensive stuff - I mean whats the real difference between $4 for 2 years or $11 for 2 years? The answer came - nice rosin and a nice sound for 400 times of playing (about the # of times I actually practice in a 2 year time frame). I have noticed much less dust than the cheap cakes that left dust all over my strings, fingerboard, and violin. It is so smooth, has no odor, and makes a great sound. I'm only playing for me, but that doesn't mean I don't want to sound good in my ears. I plan on using this for my children who are just now learning for the same reason. It's more expensive, but it lasts so long, that it's totally worth the price. 5/5 J. Turmel - See all my reviews, October 31, 2010

    Good beginner's bow

I'm just a beginning fiddler, so I didn't want to invest too much in a bow. I know the choice of bow can make a big difference to a pro, but at my level anything that works is good enough. So I can't really say exactly how good this one is; I'm not the one to test a bow; but it seems to look and function fine. I'm sometimes reluctant to go with the cheapest available, but have not been disappointed in my choice this time. 5/5 Peaceful Okie (Norman, OK USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very nice bow for the money!!!

After going into several music stores and finding ugly fiberglass bows with plastic frogs for sale for $50 or more, it was an extreme pleasure for me to find this bow on Amazon. It arrived in perfect condition. It was just as nice as any other bow I purchased for $100 20 years ago when I was a student. I recommend this to any beginning violinist (like my daughter, who really likes the bow) or as a second bow to any experienced violinist. My friend who is a professional violinist was impressed with the quality of this bow considering the cost, and she is recommending it to her students. 5/5 Stephanie Polster "Stephanie" - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
