    Great strings

I have been playing for quite a while now, and am proud to say that these are the select strings to use. Be for I used to buy this pack of strings, for 80+ dollars, and now only forty two! Buy Now! Best Deal for the Money

This is the best set of string for the money. Dominants with a different E are the standard to which others are compared. If you are a student, look no further and buy these. Many of the greatest violinists ever use these strings. For the money they cannot be beat. You may find other, more expensive strings to be better for your specific violin once you are advanced and experiment, but the Dominants with a different E are the benchmark for the money. 5/5 T. Nice Sound

For my instrument, I'm actually in love with the Pirastro E string but the Dominants G, D, and A don't really project enough. They sound very nice, but I'd prefer a more deep sort of sound. Next time I'll likely go with the Pirastros all the way; very full and clear. 4/5 Kate - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) work well for fiddling

These are great strings: I use the ball ends. I just replaced the strings on my old beater fiddle with these strings and the instrument sounds almost as good as my "advancing student" violin. Unlike the other reviewer, I get no squeaks on the E string. These strings were recommended by a local bluegrass fiddle pro, and his recommendation was a good one. A little pricey, but they last a long time. 5/5 Alyosha - See all my reviews This review is from: Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - Steel Ball-End E These are great strings: I use the ball ends. The Best Violin Strings for the Money -- The Benchmark

These are the best violin strings for the money. If you are a student, use these strings. They are used by many of the greatest violinists. Many of the greatest recordings were made with these strings. They revolutionized the world of violin strings when they were introduced. For the money they can't be beat. Highest recommendation. Also, each violin is different -- some strings sound poor on some violins -- and different strings may be better for your violin. Advanced violinists will want to experiment with different strings. Other outstanding strings have been introduced recently, including the incredible and ... 5/5 T. Good for students, but not much else.

The Dominant strings have been something of a standard for violins for a long time. They were the strings that came with my first few violins, they were the strings that were recommended to me for a very long time, and they are the ones that you will see in most music stores. But for about the same price there are many better alternatives. The problem with these strings? Their tone isn't really all that great. They have a miserably long break-in time. They aren't that durable (I've had some break within a week of installing them on my violin). And they aren't really that cheap either. If you are at all particular about what kind of string that you use, I would recommend any of the sets that Pirastro offers. The Wondertones are just about equal in price, but are a much finer example. For around $20 or so more you could buy the Evah Pirazzis (very strong, bright tone with great projection) or the Obligatos (very rich, dark tone). In short, use the Dominant for... 2/5 Wolfgang Jaeger (Pleasant Grove, UT USA) - See all my reviews, February 5, 2009

    simply wonderful

Professional strings at a student price. no matter how expensive your violin is, this creates such a beutiful rich sound!Definately awsome. Great response, tone, set-in time, and durability.**Update** 7/3/08They last forever, unlike some more expesive strings, though I do reccomend changing them at least annualy. I no longer use these strings, because they producesed a rather flat sound on my violin. If you love the sound of your instrument now, use these. They play beautifully and will not change the tone of your (hopefully) beautiful violin. If you want a more rich sound; obligatos. Brilliant sound; Eva Pirazzis. Obligatos I find work best on my instrument ( I own a 2007 Ramanian instrument valued at about $2,000 ). So, go for these three: Dominants, Eva Pirazzis, or Obligatos. Good Luck!! 5/5 M. Predictable All Around String

The Dominant strings sets the standard for synthetic violin strings, and is pretty predictable. They are fairly priced, so most instruments are strung with Dominants. When it is new, there is a slight metallic feel, but that goes away after it is stretched out. They last about 2-3 months, fairly bright, but with good overtones, and then gradually get duller. The E string is just ordinary, and many people substitute a different E string (such as Pirastro Gold). I like to substitute the Kaplan Solo E string or the Jargar Forte e. 4/5 Rachelle Ayala "Author of Michal's Window" (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - Aluminum/Steel Ball-End E The Dominant strings sets the standard for synthetic violin strings, and is pretty predictable. Predictable, All-Around, Neutral Strings

The Dominant strings sets the standard for synthetic violin strings, and is usually the default string to put on an instrument. It is middle of the road, and gives a pretty decent, although somewhat sterile, tone. When it is new, there is a slight metallic feel, but that goes away after it is stretched out. These strings have a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core and cater to artists who feel uncomfortable with steel strings.
The sound of the Dominant string is full and mellow, yet rich in overtones.
Comparable in sound to gut, without gut's disadvantage
The resounding success of the Dominant string owes a lot to its similarity in tone and response to gut strings, without gut's inherent drawbacks.
Its radiance, its ability to project sound without being metallic, comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato.

    I'm happy with these strings!

I'm a violinist with several years of experience and I would say my skill level is at the lower half of intermediate. I play in a community orchestra and usually practice about 1-2 hours per day. My violin is a Knilling Bucharest. I decided to buy the Dominant and Pirastro strings and see what all the hype was about. I replaced my D'addario Prelude strings and so they are my point of reference for comparison. I only had two problems installing the new strings. One was that the yarn near the ball end of the D string was thick and difficult to wedge into the fine tuner slit on the tailpiece. I suggest you use something soft to press it down such as your fingernail, and place your thumb between the tailpiece and the violin to take up the pressure you are forcing down on the string, have patience and keep at it. The other problem I had is violin specific. The E string comes with a "loop end" and my violin is setup with four "ball end" fine tuners on the tailpiece. I'm sure there are... 5/5 N. Can do better could do worse

Dominant is no question the standard for synthetic strings. Buy them and you'll understand. Worth the bucks. I gave them a four star because I play in a high energy country band and there are better options for me. Dominant has a beautiful sound but I play them too hard and the a unravelled after just a few weeks. Maybe that was my fingernails. But I think Larsen tzigane sound better. I am liking zyex for my needs as they are loud and have a great response. And they're less expensive. I imagine classical players will like these strings very much. 4/5 Fiddledog - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The E string outshines them all

When my "A" string broke I decided I had enough with crappy strings (the violin was a gift so I have no idea what brand of strings was used before I took ownership of it) and decided to try this set. I have stretched them for days now as recommended and although it is a vast improvement from the last set I had, the Pirastro ended up being the star of the show. The other 3 strings (Dominants) sound a bit dull as opposed to bright and full of color like the "E" string. I'll see how it all plays out, no pun intended and will keep posting updates on this review. But as for now, I'm leaning towards getting the entire Pirastro set next time. 3/5 E. Great Sounding G

The G string is probably my favorite sounding string from this line of strings. Being a beginner I don't know what the best strings in the world are but I really like the sound of this G compared to others I have heard. It has more a warm sound and less metallic than the E string from the same set. Even though for the price you might as well just buy a whole pack but than again if you only need one than no big deal. One problem I did notice is the string vibrates or something and has a strange sound when it does but than again that could be my violin but if not than this would be a three or four star string. 5/5 j-rob-82 (Virginia) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
