    Better than factory strings

I put a set of these on a cheap Chinese bass. Wow, what a difference over the factory strings! These are great! The same Ernie Ball quality I expected after using Super Slinky guitar strings for over 30 years. These Rock! Excellent Product

These strings add a wonderfully bright tone to any bass, both cheap and expensive. They can do wonders for the tone and clarety of one's bass. Also, these strings feel great compared to competetors; they allow for easier bending and sliding.Recommended. 5/5 R. Excellent strings for your bass

I really like the way these Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings sound and feel. The only negative is that they don't hold their tone very long. I found that I needed to replace them after a few months. 4/5 EmanM3 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Power to the player

The first thing I'd like to say about the strings to any potential buyer is to note the 4 numbers on the front. Basically, Ernie Ball took 4 strings from a 5-string bass and left out the G string. They take some getting used to if you've never played with strings of this size, but I will say I will never play with any other strings again other than trying out basses in shop. I love these strings. They sound great and if you like a loud, ear bleeding bass, look no further. 5/5 Monty (Cleveland, OH) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice strings for a beginner

I am an experienced musician, but new to bass playing. I got these strings to replace the stock strings on my new bass and I really like them. For a beginner, the light strings are faster, easier to mute, cause less buzzing, don't require as much pressure from the ring and pinky fingers, and are less noisy in general. They are more forgiving when I'm not quite on the fret as well. The sound is bright and responsive, and more guitar-like, though you do lose some warmth or depth compared to heavier strings. 4/5 Clark Pinyan "Clark Loves Jazz" (Winston-Salem NC) - See all my reviews, January 10, 2011

    The Best Strings...

Simply put, these are the best strings at the lowest price. I've been playing electric bass for over 35 years and these are the brand I always come back to. I've tried Dr. Bass, Rotosounds, Fender, Markleys, etc. with no noticeable difference or improvement. D'Addarios sound great and last a long time. You can usually find them in multi-packs and/or on sale so it doesn't hurt to change them more often. This is one example where use don't get what you pay for, your get more! They come in many different lengths and gauges, so make sure you buy the correct set for your instrument. If you select a different gauge, don't forget that you may have to make adjustments to the intonation, string height, and/or neck relief on your bass or guitar. 5/5 Uncle Meat (Southeastern PA, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Best Bang for the Buck!

How can these be selling for $11.50 and free shipping? I've used quite a few brands, and most sets of roundwounds are $20.00+.Okay, so the price is great, but the sound on these is equally good. Nice punchy high end, big wide low end. They don't die fast, I've never had a dud string or set and they play very nicely.Basically these strings will give you best value to quality ratio you can find. Good enough for rock 'n' roll

Rotosounds (stainless steel) are hard not only on your fingertips but on your nickel frets as well. In my opinion, with Ernie Ball nickel bass strings you get the response you need with less damage to either. The string life may be lesser, but when do you want to spend $400 to have your instrument refretted due to steel damage? If Ernie Ball is good enough for Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), don't you think it's good enough for you? 5/5 Robert Graden "Idiot Savant" (Eugene, OR) - See all my reviews, May 19, 2009

    Be careful installing them....

These strings are great, just be careful when you install them, because they can break if you tighten them too quickly. I always tighten them a little, stretch them with your fingers, tighten a little more...etc. Once they're on and in tune, they're the best. 5/5 Mike DeMoss - See all my reviews This review is from: Elixir Strings Electric Bass Strings, 4-String, Medium, Long Scale NANOWEB Coating (Electronics) These strings are great, just be careful when you install them, because they can break if you tighten them too quickly. Surprisingly Nice, Bright and Smooth!

I just put these on and my first response was "Wow"...These Elixirs have the smooth feel advertised & mentioned by other reviewers, so that your fingers just glide over them. and maybe it's because I haven't put on new strings in awhile, but when I first played these the sound was crisper & brighter than expected. I can't speak to the longevity of these strings, but they are unlike anything I've played before.Put it this way, I've purchased other bass strings from amazon, and they've all been adequate. But this is the first time I've felt the desire to write a review on bass strings!I very impressed with them and recommend. 5/5 Samantha M.V "SMV1" (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Mandatory Read

Take this to heart. I have been playing for 16 years this Christmas. For the first seven years I experimented with different brands and gauges. These were the strings I settled on after all that experimentation and I have never looked back. Slinky 9's are ALL I have bought for the past nine years. There are two types of electric guitar strings: Expensive and cheap. NEVER buy cheap strings. They sound too bright and about one out of twenty will break when you wind them up. Expensive strings are a little more complicated. The durability factor is much better with expensive strings. About one out of eighty will break. The difference between the expensive brands is in the sound. Some are "tinny" or bright. Some sound like bass strings tuned way up. With that said, Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's have what I call a "V" voicing. It's like they have a little equalizer built in set to a good rock setting. You know, boost the mids and highs and roll back the mids. THESE... are the only strings... 5/5 B. Stallings "Peanut" (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews, May 29, 2006

    Simple and Effective

I've been playing the guitar for 20 years, and I've tried a lot of different strings. Across all of the different options that are available, I'm convinced that there are really two variables that control 95% of the sound:1) String gauge. Suck it up and buy the 11's. You will *not* get the tone that heavy strings deliver with pedals, rack effects, or other widgets. Yes, you fingers will hurt if you've been playing .009's. No, you will not regret it once you get used to it.2) String age. Change your strings when they start to sound bad. It's a pain, but even good technique and heavy strings can't make up for crusty, stretched-out, worn-out strings. Changing before every show is excessive. Use your ears; when the sparkle and crispness of new strings is gone, and the sound bothers you, then change your strings. That being said, I use Ernie Ball Slinkys pretty much exclusively these days. They're reasonably cheap, sound great, and are found in... 5/5 BeeSee - See all my reviews This review is from: Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky String Set (11 - 48) (Electronics) I've been playing the guitar for 20 years, and I've tried a lot of different strings. Love the Super Slinky strings!

My experience with guitar started in the 70s with a beat up acoustic my dad handed down to me. I was enthralled with the sounds of the guitar, but hated that giant hunk of junk. In the early 80s I got myself a job, tossed that pile of warped wood, and bought myself a Gibson electric. A friend quickly turned me on to GHS Boomers, which I used exclusively for probably 7-8 years. I had tried several other brands, but for me, the Boomers were the best.Well, the 90s came around, and my musical taste changed from alt-rock to a heavier sound. My preference transitioned from Gibson guitars through Orange and Mesa/Boogie amps to Jackson guitars through Marshall amps. Due to budgetary constraints, I switched to Carvin strings -- they used to be incredibly affordable -- but "discovered" the Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings when a guitar tech friend of mine restrung one of my super-strats for me, and that was that.So what do 'Slinkies' do?1. The Best for Bass

I've been playing with the Black Beauties exclusively for about 4 years. I used Hi-beams before that (which are also great, but not quite the same caliber). I believe that DR makes the best bass strings out there. I've tried everything: Rotosound, Dean Markley, Labella, Elixir...the list goes on but none compare to the BBs. They last forever and have an awesome crisp sound that makes for good, beefy and clear lows, and pronounced singing highs. I use them on my Warwick Thumb and am a customer for life. 5/5 Joel Krautstrunk "Manjushri1" (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews, February 23, 2010

    Nice feel, excellent sound

These strings are great. I'm on my third set. I originally bought them because I heard they were long enough for my fanned fret Dingwall bass which needs longer strings to reach past the nut at the E. It turns out that these strings have excellent sound and really nice feel They sound great right out of the box and last a long time (as advertised.) am impresses enough that I just ordered a set of the light version for my 5 string Carvin.Be warned though. Amazon offers these exact strings with a slightly different name for $8 less. 5/5 Jeff (POOLER, Gabon) - See all my reviews, December 11, 2008

    Surprising

I tried DR strings back in the day and it was when the Black Beauties had not yet been produced and manufactured. They were always a little overpriced for me. I have been loyal to Ernie Ball Slinky's for a decade plus (mostly due to the punchy sound and price point) but I have been interested in experimenting with new tones as I have a new Hamer Velocity and it's pick up configuration isn't as versatile as my Sting Ray; I'm still learning to get the most out of it. The Black Beauties are black and that is cool- sure, but I am glad that they offered more than visual appeal. They sound tight across the range from the deep thump of the open E to the highs through my basses extended range. The strings have NOT leeched any black "dye" or coloring onto my fingers but alternately the Black Beauties feel very satiny upon my tips and allow finger style playing to be crisp and smooth. Slap and pop, as well as two hand tap is pretty tasty too, with maybe a little less snap on the G than I'd... 5/5 Timothy J. Risser "Headgear" (Mixburg, PA) - See all my reviews, April 23, 2012

    Clean and Crisp

I was just looking for some cheap strings to get an old bass I had laying around up and running. I was pleasantly surprised at how crisp they sound. These are very good strings. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are better than Boomers or what not, but if you are just playing for fun, these are the ones to go with. I am very happy with this purchase. 5/5 Curtis G. So bright, so green!

These strings are fantastic. They sound just like Rotosounds without the high-end harshness. The coating is awesome - My only complaint is that it's far too easy to accidentally scrape some off while you're stringing up your bass. Otherwise, with fingers and picks (and fingernails!) I found this coating to still be more durable than any other on the market. The green is brilliant. Bright and stands out. I do wish that DR provided this in different gauges and types (flatwound, anyone?) but otherwise these are top notch not only for looks - but also sound. The ton, as I said earlier, is much like Rotosounds without the harshness. They have a nice aggressive growl - Even for medium gauge! The coating does not seem to have any real negative effect, and I've been using these strings for a few weeks now without any deadening of the tone. I do believe that this coating will keep the strings quality up to snuff for months - if not years - to come! I certainly won't be... 4/5 Klisk (Wayne, NJ; United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great playing strings, fun to look at, too!

The properties of this string set are great. Sustain, tone, durability... it's all there. (Just be careful when stringing your bass so as not to scrape off the coating). Then, for fun, DR has coated them in various color choices, and you are sure to get 'feedback' from folks when they see them on your instrument. They are truly bright in appearance and have a sort of 'glow' in room light, well before you expose them to black lighting. It's my opinion that the coating reduces the string tonal brightness a small amount, but certainly not enough to be an issue at all. I base that on the assumption that these strings are very similar or identical to the Sunbeam strings (based on the string descriptions), but then we all know about 'assumptions'... so take this opinion advisedly. I normally play using Sunbeams, and this is my second set of green-coated strings from DR. So, I'm only reporting what my ears are giving me. The feel of the strings is a bit smoother than my non-coated round... 5/5 Don "On The Upper Cumberland" (Cookeville, TN USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great? Eh, but good strings

The strings are very very bright, not glow in the dark as one might be lead to believe by the packaging. Sound very bright and if you're into slapping with heavy popping then these are great. In fact, they sound good without an amp. Not particularly great on the low end but mid range playing is clear with a sharpness that isn't bad at all. Recommend 'em. 5/5 DislexicX - See all my reviews This review is from: DR Strings NGB-45 Coated Nickel Bass Guitar Strings, Medium (Electronics) The strings are very very bright, not glow in the dark as one might be lead to believe by the packaging.
