Smooth the the touch. Smooth to the ear.Takamine's model designation for this is 'S35'. In my estimation, the 'S' must stand for 'solid', 'smooth', 'superb', 'special' or just plain 'sweet'.This guitar seems to be perfect for a beginner or amateur/recreational player. The construction and overall quality are very impressive. From the solid fit and finish to the easy to tune/maintain hardware - this guitar is top notch.Looks-wise, the finish is darker than pictured and is matte not glossy. The finish will not show finger prints like a gloss-finished black bargain basement model. This is one good looking instrument that looks like it cost far more than it does. Takamine S35 Guitar

This is my third guitar. They have all been entry level instruments, and it seems as fast as I buy them I give them to my children. This one I will keep. This is by far the best guitar of the previous two, and thinking back the least expensive. I cannot believe how well-made this instrument is, with close attention to detail. There were no short-cuts taken when assembling this guitar, those small details that usually distinguish entry level instuments. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. 5/5 T. Good Beginner's Guitar

This is a nice beginner's guitar. The action is kind of high, so you will earn your calluses quickly. I bought mine from GearTree through Amazon, and it arrived quickly in great condition. However, consider buying directly from a vendor's website, because some offer free shipping when you buy directly. Then you can buy a decent case or a strap as well, and for the same price as shipping would have cost you. Also, get an inexpensive tuner as well - you will be playing the day it arrives! 5/5 muhlen (Washington, D.C.) - See all my reviews This review is from: Jasmine by Takamine S35 Acoustic Guitar, Natural (Electronics) This is a nice beginner's guitar. Great guitar

I played a Johnson dreadnought in highschool and was told that my fingers would stop hurting eventually. They never did do to the really high action (distance from fretboard to string). After 2yrs I finally gave up guitar. Recently I was having a 1/4 life crisis (im 25) and wanted to learn guitar. I broke out the old johnson from the closet and played for 2 weeks and again the finger problem. I went to Guitar Center and talked to a couple of the guys and started playing as many guitars as i could. I found that every single one was easier on my fingers than the johnson. I tried out the yamaha and a few others in this range. The yamaha just felt so much better. The action was perfect for a newbie but after asking another customer to test it for me (guy was freaking awesome on a guitar) I realized this one was amazing on really advanced stuff and you could strum the heck out of it and it still sounds amazing. Please if you are looking at playing guitar. PLEASE start with something like... 5/5 Travis Dalton (Phx, AZ) - See all my reviews, July 12, 2009

    Excellent guitar, with excellent potential

I got this guitar about a year ago as a birthday present from my girlfriend. Because ears are so subjective, we went to Guitar Center to try out a whole slew of makes and models. Pretty much anything they had in the sub-$500 range. I tried Martins, Fenders, Epiphones, Gibsons, Taylors, Ovations, Yamahas-- you name it, I tried it. Most sounded pretty good, but you could tell they were budget guitars. Just no balance. Some had great deep tone but no treble. Others were very bright but had no bottom end. I was about ready to settle on a $350 Yamaha (which looked BEAUTIFUL) and had a decent balance, but then my girlfriend found this FG700S hiding behind some boxes. I played it and...WOW. Rich lows and bright highs. Needless to say, that's the one I picked. My fingers hurt at first from playing it so much, but I got used to it pretty quick. I kept the same strings Yamaha had originally put on it for about 6 months before they started to turn dark with corrosion. I don't know... 5/5 S. Great low cost instrument

After many years of thinking about it, I finally decided to actually pick up the guitar so received a hand me down Sigma from the 70's and started plucking away. After a few months of killing my fingers I figured I would spend a few bucks and get it fixed. In about 30 seconds Billy from B & D Repair (highly recommended if you are in the Phoenix area) said in all reality this was a money pit that would never get anywhere. After a good discussion of what my playing level was and where I wanted to go with my guitar experience he recommended the Yamaha FG700S as a top level entry instrument.Immediately after picking the guitar up my playing improved, mainly due to the strings actually being close to the fret board as opposed to a few inches away. I have been playing it pretty solidly every day for the past 4 months and have really enjoyed this guitar.Sound stays true during light strumming as well as through hard and fast pieces. No real distortion of... 5/5 S. Murphy (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews, May 7, 2009

    Great Price, Great Quality

Despite some other reviews, i received the guitar on the first date of the estimated delivery.Out of the box, it did smell a little like a chemical, but by the next day the smell was gone. The guitar came with a Strap, a Pick, a set of strings, a harmonica, a pitch pipe, and a gig bag. However, i never got the eBook. The strap is very cheap looking, and short, which doesn't surprise me considering the price of the whole set. The pick is, well it's a pick, nothing really special about it. The set of strings looks good, it comes with all six, although there's no easy distinction between which string being which. The harmonica is okay, it's bigger than i expected, but it works, i don't know much about harmonicas, so i can't really review that. The pitch pipe is in tune, although i doubt they make pitch pipes that don't play the right pitches. Finally, the gig bag is very thin, and the guitar fits snugly into the bag.The guitar itself is a... 5/5 Joseph Carr - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not bad guitar for the price

The guitar arrived very soon.A strong smell of chemical something came out on the first day, so I have leave it untouched for 2 days. The 3rd string was broken. Luckily they give a free set of string, so I could replace the 3rd string by myself. No e-book.The bag is OK.Having sad that, considering the unbelievable low price, the guitar itself is not bad. 3/5 Kai "Tech Reader" (Singapore, Singapore) - See all my reviews, July 18, 2010

    Guitar slow but ok product

The shipping for this item even though I paid extra for 2 day shipping took a week and a half. When I got the product the packaging was iffy and was left on my porch in the rain. There were also item that were advertised that were not in the package. After a slow response from the company, I finally received the items 2 weeks later. Awesome Guitar

I got this guitar because i had recently purchased an electric guitar and thought it was time to pick up an acoustic, fortunately i got this one! i got it in about 3 days and it was avalable at a really good price. The guitar came with basically everything you need to start playing and the chromatic tuner it came with was even better then the one that came with my electric guitar! This guitar has a GREAT sound and quality, i would definately buy it again! 5/5 Jesus Jimenez (California) - See all my reviews, April 29, 2010

    Nice package

Having little to no knowledge about guitars, I did some basic research on guitar packages before deciding to purchase this set. I'm older and wasn't sure if I really wanted to go through the work to learn the guitar, but I did want to try, so I was looking for a nice "all in one" package to get me started without spending lots of money. This set arrived promptly, was well packaged (the guitar was well padded by styrofoam and cardboard) and exactly as advertised. The book is much smaller than I was expecting based on the "...for dummies" series, but it seemed do-able. Although I had to put in 4 stars for the overall package, I'll briefly review each piece of the set for better clarity.Guitar bag - 1 star, functional to keep the dust off the guitar.Electronic tuner - 4 stars, works easily but the batteries were difficult to load without seeming to have broken the unit.Book - 3 stars, an ok book & CD to start with, but very little depth.Guitar... 4/5 Many Interests "John" (Kansas) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) From a Beginner's Point of View.

I bought my Kona guitar two weeks ago, after researching the company on the web. It's just the right size for me, and stays in tune pretty well - very little adjustment on the keys.I like the digital tuner that's included in the kit. It's much easier than using a pitch pipe.I would suggest getting a hard case, though. The gig bag isn't padded. 5/5 P. Hoskins (California) - See all my reviews, July 6, 2007

    Great kit

I just recieved this product, but honestly, I can tell it's a very good kit already. It wasn't what I was expecting but it serves it's purpose. I was contemplating buying the Austin Bazaar 38" Black Cutaway Guitar with Carrying Bag and Accessories for only $40 but after reading the negative reviews, I decided against it. Plus, it's obvious they just want to get rid of them and make quick cash instead of actually selling a quality product. I mean, I'd rather pay a little more (I paid $94 on Amazon) for a QUALITY guitar than 40 dollars for something that will fall apart in a few weeks. The guitar itself is VERY nice - very good quality, beautiful wood and professional looking. It's obvious Kona knows guitars. The only downside is that it doesn't come with extra strings, a stand or a strap, but really that's not going to cost more than $20 to buy. Plus, the book is great - funny, simple and the pictures are very helpful, and the CD helps too. So take your pick - if your really serious... 5/5 Melissa - See all my reviews This review is from: Guitar For Dummies Acoustic Guitar Starter Pack (Guitar, Book, Audio CD, Gig Bag) (Electronics) I just recieved this product, but honestly, I can tell it's a very good kit already. Amazing

I am completely new to the guitar but I've played violin for 13 years so I picked this up really quick. After only a few hours I was already really enjoying the guitar. It is beautiful, looks great, and sounds great too, at least in my opinion. The other reviews are right though about the tuner. It is a blowpipe and it is not in tune. You can easily google "guitar tuner" and have a site play you the tone though. The extra picks are nice, I was really happy they were also different colors. The extra strings are a nice addition and the strap is generic but it came as well.I got this guitar on amazon at the lowest price ever---$55.06. It is the best deal I've ever gotten in my life. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. Great guitar for a beginner. 5/5 rushofmusic - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice Guitar

Arrived in a couple of days -- much sooner than expected.Got it for my wife as her first guitar. Neither of us knows much about guitars, although I've played in band, orchestra, and rock and roll bands since junior high (as percussionist). I'll pick and strum on a guitar for fun and to experiment, but I don't know fingerings or how to play. That said, this guitar is very attractive and has a nice, warm tone. Chose this one as it fit my budget, and the apparent quality, namely, the guitar components such as the tuning gears and pegs similar to those on much higher end guitars, and the bridge. It also comes with steel strings (which I think are preferable), not nylon, and a package of replacement strings. Also comes with several picks. The tuner is not as good as my timpani tuner. It is useable, if one has a good ear for pitch, but the tonal difference between it and a guitar make the tuner less than desirable. Better to tune against a piano... 4/5 dst - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This guitar DOES have a BIG SOUND for a small price

I was thrilled when my guitar arrived and even more so after I tuned it and began to play.My guitar is absolutely beautiful. The finish is flawless. And it's got that new guitar smell...ahhhhhh.It does have a pick guard (that is not shown in the photo on any website or in any catalog) which pleases me. It would be a shame to scratch the surface while strumming with a heavier pick. I read one review on a music vendor's website where the reviewer complained about Takamine and Jasmine printed all over the pick guard. And they were right about that...but I found it very easy to remove all these words by simply peeling off this protective sticker. Dah.The strings are a little heavier than I like but I'll be changing them in a few weeks anyway. The sound and craftsmanship is anything but what you would expect from such an affordable guitar and everything you'd expect to pay more for. It has a rich, full bodied sound.I am now a... 5/5 Wilhelmina Gaudy "coolartsybabe" (Beaverton, OR USA) - See all my reviews, March 25, 2005

    Great guitar for the price!

I normally don't write reviews, but this is an exception because I've been so pleased with this guitar. To be up-front, I didn't buy this through Amazon, but instead through a local retailer, at a similar price. To prep you for what I'm about to say, what I write is absolutely true, and from the heart of a pleased customer.Starting at age 13, I've been playing steel string guitar now for the last 37 years. When I was 16, I loved guitar playing so much that I committed to save up an entire summer's worth of life guard wages to buy myself a Martin D-35 guitar. I did so, and still have and love this guitar today - my main guitar.A while ago, I was at a local music store waiting for a non-guitar related service of some kind, and while I was waiting, I pulled a few guitars from the hangers on the wall, and messed around with some of my stock guitar riffs and pieces I know.Among those guitars was this Jasmine S34C guitar. I was really impressed... 5/5 Stephen M. Wells - See all my reviews, May 26, 2009

Sounds Good...But Quality A Different Story!!!

I had this guitar for three days. I opened it, looked it over, had a few dings and scratches, the strings looked good (no corrosion), basically looked like a $90 guitar. But I will say this...It sounds pretty good!! For a guitar in this price range with the stock strings on it, it really shocked me how outstanding it did sound....so now onto the 3 star reviewAnytime you get a new guitar, it is required by most guitar players to put your strings on it. As I was changing the strings, and I own three guitars so I am experienced in this regard, the nut flew off. I removed two strings and was polishing the fret board when it flew off, across my living room. I had to remove all the strings and was going to attempt to put the nut back on when I noticed the neck had a two inch crack in it now and the headstock was easily bendableMost people would have given 1 star for this guitar if this happened to them. But I realize I bought a $90 guitar, that... 3/5 C. Glaser "Chris G" (Midland, TX) - See all my reviews, November 24, 2010

Haven't Named her yet, but she arrived on a cloud

I am feeling like I have a new member of the family. No name yet, but the stork was extra careful with her. My blue baby came with extra strings, with the original ones wrapped preciously. She also came with a tuner and bag. You will never get a better first guitar. (that is why the name may come after you have known one another in other ways, first). 5/5 R Woiler (Canton, MI) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Product

I bought this guitar for my daughter. It looks and sounds great. We searched 'how to attach the strap' on the internet and in the instructional video the person was using the exact same guitar (style, color and design!). The color is vibrant, the strap is sturdy, the case is perfect for easy carrying. You won't be disappointed in your purchase. Her lessons haven't started yet but she hasn't put it down. I am not a guitar expert or player myself so I can't say if it's more for beginners, advanced level or both but the price was perfect for my daughter as a beginner. I would purchase this guitar again and highly recommend it. 5/5 Kellej74 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very happy with the Pick set

Pretty short and sweet. The picks are well made, brightly colored (so people who lose *everything* within 5 minutes -like myself- can find them), came in different (bright) colors, and the right amount came in the package. Plus the price was good. Highly recommended. 5/5 Brent A. Walter "The purpose of our lives is ... - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Beautiful guitar body

I bought this guitar for my grandson for Christmas...however, I'm going to give it to my grand-daughter for a first guitar. (I bought my grandson a different one). The guitar itself is beautiful. I was impressed. The strings are soft and "buzzy". I bought other strings and will restring it after I give it to her.The guitar does have a nice sound quality, and projects quite well.I'm having a hard time fitting the guitar into it's case, but Austin Bazar has assured me this is the correct case. When I recieved the guitar it did not include the accessories as described, but when I contacted Austin Bazar they had them here in a couple of days. They have great cusomer contact people. ThanksThe strap that came with is kind of ugly...but that's not hard to remedy. For a first guitar you can't beat the price!!! and new strings were only about $8.00I'd recommed this set. 4/5 Nancy Christensen "TartanicFan" (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews, December 9, 2008

    It's the little things.........

While we were more than satisfied with the guitar ( we got what we paid for ) it was the little things that really annoyed us. First, the strap shown in the photo is not the strap that comes with the guitar. The strap that came was made for a guitar with two pegs - this guitar has one strap peg on the bottom making the strap that was sent totally useless. Second, the vinyl bag is very cheap and was torn along the zipper. Third, the photo shows 3 picks - only one is sent. Fourth, the photo would make you believe you are getting a second set of strings - you aren't. Only three strings are sent; the sixth, fifth and fourth. The guitar itself is more than adequate for a beginner ( it's made in China )and the reduced price is a great deal. I have contacted the seller with my concerns and will wait to pass judgement until I see if they resolve these issues. 3/5 SONOMA WINO "SONOMA WINO" (SONOMA COUNTY CALIFORNIA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) good starting guitar.

it's a pretty good guitar if you're a beginner. it came with all that it said it would. except that the strap is too short. and my bag is ripped when i got it. but the guitar was in good condition. although in the picture it has a white trim, mine didn't come with a white trim around the body. it was just straight black. but i don't mind much. it's still a good starter guitar. 4/5 K.Natural - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
