Nice Practice Cello For The Price

This review is for a Cecilio CECO-2LW Electric Cello.I purchased this electric cello two months ago, although not from this vendor. I needed a practice cello that I could bring to work and practice (silently) during my breaks.I was concerned about paying around 300 dollars for something of unknown quality, especially since I could not find any reviews. I was pleasently surprised with this cello. I would recommend checking Amazon's price against online auction sites to see who offers it cheaper. The cello comes in a large cardboard box. Once un-boxed, the bridge needs to be placed in it's slot (no-brainer compared to acoustic cellos) and the strings tensioned/brought up to tune. If you have ever replaced your own guitar strings, you should be able to do this yourself. If you are unfamiliar with stringed instruments, you might want to take it to a luthier to do this. After a couple months of playing this cello, here are my... 4/5 D. Excellent Price!

I don't regret buying this at all. The price makes it totally worth it. I've had it for a few weeks now and it's working great! The strings that came with it are junk. I replaced them. But really no big deal. And I haven't even tried to use the bow or the headphones that come with it.I have it plugged into a cheapo amp, and it's sweet. I'm sure it would be Awesome with a good amp. It's also good to practice with unplugged when people are around trying to do things. I have a lot of siblings in school so they get mad when I play my acoustic when they're trying to do homework or watch a movie or sleep, so it's nice to have around. It's loud enough for you to hear it but not enough to disturb others. I bought it so I could practice anytime I want.I haven't played any of the more expensive electric cellos but I was impressed with this one. I was expecting less for what I paid. It's not perfect. Still a little cheap. But definitely worth it! I highly recommend it. 4/5 him - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Cheap, but gets the job done.

I ordered this product from Amazon, and it arrived very quickly. Packaging was sufficient to the need, though there were no instructions or parts-lists. This thing is easy enough to put together that it doesn't really matter. As far as the item itself, it is obvious that it's only a couple hundred bucks. The 'ebony' fingerboard is just black-painted wood, so be prepared to polish the heck out of it to get the worst off. My fingers, even after vigorous wiping and several days of use, still turn a little black by the end of a session. The strings are pathetically cheap, and the fine tuners just do not want to let go of the strings. I can thread the string through the gap, but popping it out through the space between the prongs is difficult, and you'll probably just damage the string. Just go ahead and order new strings and fine-tuners while you're buying this thing. The body also seems to be a little bit longer than my 4/4 acoustic, which makes finding a comfortable... 4/5 Heather Whitehouse - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Fine as a starter electric

I bought this cello because I couldn't afford the big gnarly cellos (yet). I couldn't find any reviews on THIS particular model, so I hope this helps someone in the future. The cello came in a box with good packaging. The bridge was not installed. I've only played an acoustic cello before, so a little guidance would have been helpful here. Had to look at the pictures on the Cecilio website to figure out that the bridge goes right on top of the pickup. Got the bridge up, strings tightened some then put the battery in. OK, that worked. Plugged in the cheap headphones that come with it. Nothing. Tried the other jacks. Nothing. Tried the 1/8" to 1/4" cord into a mixer. Nothing. I called the manufacturer and they were less than helpful. They figured the guy in India (from Amazon)would have MUCH better information than the manufacturer. While I was fuming and contacting the guy in India my husband messed around with it some more. We found out that it has to go from the... 2/5 Heather K. Solid and well made, with some quirks.

I was able to assemble this cello and have it playing within an hour of UPS delivery. It had everything needed to start, including a battery, which is very easy to install and replace. The bow is a basic student model, and the case is just a thin fabric, but for the price it's a supreme bargain! The fit and finish is excellent, it looks great, and plays easily. The fingerboard has some areas that are not quite smooth, which can show up on any cello, but other than that I've used it indoors and out, with a bass amp and also through a direct box to a mixer at a ball game. Never dared take my 19th century cello out into that environment. So I definitely recommend this item. 4/5 M. Holt "Intrigued" (Virginia) - See all my reviews, July 27, 2011

    Well Pleased

I ordered this Cello on Monday September 5, 2011 and received the Cello on Friday September 9, 2011 delivered by FedEx. It came in a box and like the other review said I had to install the bridge (which was in the case). Everything seemed to be well just a little dusty. The support that comes up to your chest I accidentally broke because the screws it had were really short, I found some that were a little longer and replaced them and everything is fine. I play it at my church and every one can hear it and they were pleased at how it sounded and so was I. It has a couple of rough spots. My A string twangs when i play the 4th finger D in 1st position, the fourth position on this cello is a little higher up the neck than you would think if you are used to acoustic cellos. Cheap strings an alright bow but everything was great It came with cheap headphones and a battery. Amazing cello and price!!

Hello everyone! I will start by saying I am a classically trained cellist and have been playing for 11 years now. About 2 years ago, I started dabbling into the world of amplifying a cello and using effects. When I started this journey, I used a Fishman C-100 cello pickup on my acoustic instrument. (I would strongly recommend this pickup for anyone wanting to keep the acoustic instrument for use of amplification. Be sure to buy an acoustic preamp like an L.R. Baggs.)For all you beginners, I must stress that you invest in an acoustic cello. This cello is not the type to learn on or anything like that. I can see how the silent and cheap aspect is appealing, but this instrument truly shines as one meant for amplification and effects. Now, onto my review.I received the cello in the mail just as any other package I have received from Amazon. It comes in a fairly large box, was much lighter than expected, and was well packaged for delivery. Do not worry... 4/5 Knuckles624 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) You get what you paid for, which is a cheap electric cello.

Background, I'm a beginner cello player, self taught but I had a year of violin and double bass in college. I made a project of a terrible eBay violin almost a decade ago and in the process learned to do a lot of my own repairs (replaced everything but the body and had a tolerable instrument at the end. Sadly, this is relevant to this review). Straight up: if you are not comfortable restringing your own instrument- this is not the instrument for you. Luckily it's not terribly difficult to learn to do via the Internet. This is a beginners instrument.I purchased a Cecilio cello (acoustic, not the lowest quality- but only one step up) several months ago and have really enjoyed it, so when I wanted to make an electric cello purchase it wasn't a hard decision to go with another Cecilio purchase. Things to know:The good1) It's pretty. The black is a metallic black with a tiny amount of sparkle to it.2) There's a fold out chest bar that helps simulate the... 1/5 Alan S. Affordable Electric Cello!

My oldest son started playing the cello when he was 8 years old. He stuck with it and developed into a State Level Cellist by 8th grade. He has been asking for an electric cello ever since. We set goals, really high goals because what we found at the time was $800.00 or more. Going into his 11th grade year, he mentioned that he found an electric cello and asked if we would pay half if he saved up.He has been playing for 9 years and is a teaching assistant for level 1 and level 2 cello classes so he knows his instrument. I would not think this is a starter instrument, even though the price is low. We put the order in and within 30 minutes of receiving it, he had it put together and tuned. We did not have the problems other reviewers did with the fine tuners nor the pegs/peg box.Our son has been playing it just as often as his acoustic cello. So it has doubled his practice time.Final verdict: Highly recommended, but this is not a starter instrument. 5/5 J. Edward E. Aban - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) About right

I play the guitar. That being said, I've always loved bowed strings, and really wanted to try it.Well, this was my chance.Do I regret it? Not yet.Honestly, I am able to get some very decent sounds out of this instrument, especially running it through my PC recording software to tweak the sound. The A string snapped on the second tune up. So that's pretty sweet. I guess people aren't kidding when they say you'll need new string for this at least. You will, because these cheap steel ones will break. These strings feel like something off a construction site when I compare them to playing my guitar strings. But maybe that's how cello strings are? I guess I'll find out after I plunk down $100 for a set of strings! That would make any guitarists stomach turn.Anyways, you get what you pay for. I'm glad they're making this product available because it has allowed me to try something I never would have otherwise. Hopefully I'm able to get it... 3/5 John R. Novelty...

First, this is not your typical cello. It's a 300 electric cello. Please keep this in mind.It works, it sounds alright, and it's definitely great for practice. Style 5 is quite nice looking. But the style doesn't actually affect the sounds, so choose whichever you like.To get this playing, you plug in a headphone into one jack. There's another for aux output, great for tuning if you have an electric tuner with an input. There's two control knobs, one for volume and one for tone/timbre. They function and the tone is a nice add to get the sound you like. Here's a few details to keep in mind:1) It is not silent. It just doesn't project. My boyfriend says that he can hardly hear in the next room over with the door closed; but it is definitely not silent (i.e., you can actually practice without the headphones)2) The stuff that comes with: bow, rosin, headphone... wish they would they would just keep them and knock of another... 3/5 Clement Chau "amorelane" (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews, December 26, 2011

    An amazing cello

The 6 string NS is quite an amazing instrument. Even when it is not plugged in it has a great cello sound. There is a learning curve to play it but it offers the electric cellist a sleek, portable, cello sounding option. The only questionable detail is the bag that comes with the stand in it. Putting such heavy equipment right on (with just the cloth of the bag between them) the cello itself seems chancy. 5/5 T. Rowe (USA) - See all my reviews, July 8, 2011

    Solid, but not quiet

I jumped on an electric cello as the only thing I'd be able to play in my apartment. I certainly enjoy this cello, but it should not be described as "'silent' when not played through an amp." In reality, it sounds only slightly quieter than a real cello, except for the lowest string, which is significantly quieter. If your goal is to be really really quiet when you play, the piercingly loud, higher notes are still going to be just that.Still, the fact that it has a full-body, wood resonating chamber is sure to produce a more authentic sound when amplified (though I am not able to compare it to one of those minimal-frame electric cellos). Rocket City should just cut holes in the front and make it an accoustic-electric. 4/5 T. DeCarlo (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews, May 30, 2008
