  Fantastic value

  This cello is perfect for the price I paid. Though I understand one reviewer received no cello rosin at all, my cello came with everything it said it would. I even got a violin tuning pipe, not that it is that much help. I agree that the bow is slightly warped (looking on it straight down)but that has not hindered my playing.   Great buy!

  Beautiful cello. It sounds great. I got everything I was suppose to get.. stand works great.. Everything was perfect excet for the bow.. It was really warped... And I really hate the case.. it offers little protection... basically it protects from scratches, cosmetic stuff.. which is the least of my worries for a practicing cello for a newbie.. I wouldn't let the crappy bow and cheapo bag be a reason to not buy this.. For the very low price that this is, it's a fantastic deal.. I do have a hard time keeping it tuned, but I don't know if that's my fault or if it's the cello..My story is, I didn't know I needed to put the rosin on the bow.. first time I had ever even held a bow! I was trying to tighten the strings to just see what it basically sounded like.. it was HORRIBLE! So I'd tighten the strings, rub the bow across it. over and over.. until, SNAP!!!!!!!!!   Upon ordering the cello, the day it would come in was supposed to be about two weeks later, but I was pleasantly surprised when my cello came in three days later. The cello itself has a nice tone and came with an extra set of strings and a bow. I had it set up and started playing in no time. The only complain I have would be that the cello case has mould on it. It was only on the outside; there wasn't any mould on the inside, just on the outside of the case. But since everything else exceeded my satisfaction, I wasn't too disappointed by the mould.   Nice beginner level cello

  I wasn't expecting a lot out of this cello, given the price. I got exactly what I expected a very acceptable instrument for my beginner cellist at a great price. It is shipped without the bridge in place to avoid damage. So, I took it to someone who fixes instruments to fit the bridge. He shaved the bridge and put string grooves into it and fitted it into place, he also adjusted the soundpost. I also had him do the same to a violin. All this only cost me $8 bucks! The nut is a little tall and can be fixed but isn't terribly necessary and I'm not going to bother with it yet. It's playable the way it is. The sound is fine too. I would reccomend taking the instrument to someone to set it up.   The cello got here in record time. However, it was spray painted not stained black. They forgot to paint the back side of the neck. The bow is sub standard for sure. I decided to keep it just until I can buy another one. It was not the one that was pictured.   Most of Dawn Upshaw's albums are so artistic in their conception, that you want to buy them regardless of what is on it. It takes true talent to "sell" Monteverdi, Schwantner, Crumb, and Purcell on the same CD! But Upshaw does with performances that are sensitive, but always in the spirit of "Songs to Morpheus." Upshaw doesn't just program her album with songs that all share the same literary theme, but she instills the idea of Morpheus, and by extension, the moon, in all the pieces--the "soother of suffering."Handel's "Gentle Morpheus" is sung with gentle restraint, bringing out the subtle nuances so prevalent in Handel's vocal works. Upshaw has a clear understanding of early music performance and does not seek to "overinterpret" the music. Likewise, her performance of the newer pieces are equally sensitive.   Carefully crafted, challenging, ultimately beautiful

  This CD is the product of great artistic care, expressing a moonlit night as a world both of healing rest and of vague anxiety and unrealized possibility. Dawn Upshaw's selection of early (Renaissance and Baroque) and twentieth-century pieces is arranged sequentially (and, in some cases, musically) to draw the listener through both aspects of this world. Peter Warlock's song "Sleep" is an excellent beginning to this project, setting John Fletcher's text to an accompaniment that recalls the sixteenth century while making use of tensions and dissonances that developed in the nineteenth century. The Monteverdi, Purcell, and Dowland songs are accompanied by one or two guitars, creating a sense of restful intimacy that is reinforced by Upshaw's smooth, clear lyric soprano.   The theme of this music is Sleep and Dreams. The 'night setting' is reflected in a very interesting variety of songs, both old and modern. The ethereal quality of much of this musicis well suited to Upshaw's silver toned voice, which expresses the fantasy and other worldliness of the compositions without losing the idea that the human soul can find fantastic strangeness and blessed comfort in each night of its existence.By the way, and most significantly: the music is beautiful beyond words. 5/5 0, November 30, 2001

  Product arrived damaged. Called seller (who has no 800#) and left message. No return call. Tried 2 other times and finally got answer. Said return product and they would send new one. Three weeks later, no product, no contact, no nothing. Called amazon and they had no info. Told me they would issue credit or I could call seller. Said the company I bought from was third party seller and thats all they could do. Doesn't amazon know they are the customer facing organization and they need to own the customer experience from beginning to end?? Prime example of customer no service.
